Best day trips around Anzère
Our Favourite Walks
One of the things we love most about Anzère is being able to head straight into the mountains from the chalet. From a challenging climb to a peaceful walk along a historic bisse, these are some of our absolute favourites.
Pas de Maimbré – our family classic
± 12 km round trip · ± 1,000 m elevation gain · ± 4–5 hours round trip
The hike to Pas de Maimbré (2,360 m) has become a true family tradition. Almost every summer, we set off from the chalet and hike all the way to the top. It’s a challenging climb, but the spectacular panorama at the top makes it well worth the effort!
Prefer to take it a little easier? Take the gondola up and enjoy a short alpine walk at the top. Another option is to hike one way and take the gondola for the other.
Our tip: start early, bring plenty of water and wear good hiking shoes. It’s a challenging hike, but definitely one of our favourites!
Grand Bisse d’Ayent
± 12 km · ± 3–4 hours · several options
The Grand Bisse d’Ayent is a beautiful walk following the water through forests and along the mountainsides around Anzère.
Our favourite option is to take the bus to the Tseuzier Dam and follow the bisse back towards the chalet. The bus is free with the Anzère Liberté Pass, which is included with your stay at the chalet. If you want to make a full day of it, you can first walk around the beautiful Lac de Tseuzier before following the bisse back down.
You can also walk the route in the opposite direction, from Anzère towards the dam. The first part, alongside the water and through the woods, is fairly flat, but don’t be fooled: further along, the trail starts to climb quite steeply. Definitely not to be underestimated, but absolutely worth it!
Our tip: take the bus to the dam and enjoy a leisurely walk back towards the chalet. For those looking for more of a challenge, try the route in the opposite direction.
Bisse de Sion – great with children
± 2 hours for our route · starting at the Anzère gondola
The Bisse de Sion is normally walked downhill from the Tseuzier Dam, but we decided to explore it in the opposite direction. We started at the Anzère gondola and followed the bisse uphill to Les Grillesses, before turning around and walking back.
A fun idea with children: make a small wooden boat together before setting off and let it float along the water of the bisse as you walk. We had our baby with us and, as it was quite a hot day, we kept our walk to around two hours.
Our tip: a lovely option for a shorter walk where you can simply decide along the way how far you want to go.
Bisse de Clavau – through the vineyards
A peaceful, mostly flat walk · ideal with children
The Bisse de Clavau winds its way through the beautiful vineyards above Sion and can be walked in either direction. We chose the direction that allowed us to stay in the shade as much as possible. The path is mostly flat, making it a great option with children too.
On hot summer days, we recommend setting off early in the morning, as it can get very warm among the vineyards.
After our walk, we drove to Chez Constantin for a wine tasting, about 5 minutes from our starting point. Our favourite was definitely the Petite Arvine! We had booked the tasting in advance.
Our tip: combine the walk with a local wine tasting for a wonderful morning or afternoon in the valley.
